Follow God’s Direction
Matthew 2:13a “An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up,’ he said.”
Good, morning Lord. It is a fresh day in your Kingdom. You come to us every day like the manna in the wilderness for the Israelites. Manna supplied food for their physical survival as they travelled to the promised land you had in store for them. They were to gather manna each day and not try to store it because it would rot. Today, you provide spiritual nourishment with the renewing of your resurrection by the Holy Spirit.
“Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord” (Amplified Bible). Like the manna, you are fresh every day. When we store up past spiritual blessings our walk with you becomes bitter. We invite you to refresh our spirits every day.
God spoke to Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, in dreams. First, He spoke to Joseph in a dream when He explained how Mary could be pregnant as a virgin (Matthew 1:20). So, in the second dream Joseph recognized the Lord’s voice and obeyed. “When they (the Magi) had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up,’ he said, ‘take the child and His mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him’” (Matthew 2:13, NIV).
This was a new dream and a new vision Joseph heard and followed. And God continued directing the path Joseph’s path for the safety of his family.
Lord, that calling from you for Joseph was in a confrontation of life. Herod sought to kill the baby Jesus and Joseph responded to your call by escaping to Egypt. Our callings in life also seem to come from confrontations we experience. We pray to be receptive to your guidance and be aware of the various ways you guide us! Father, help us be in tune to your direction. Following your invisible hand is difficult to discern, so give us spiritual discernment in our daily activities. Lord, you are our daily manna. Help us respond to our life callings by following your unseen hand.
