Morning Meditation – Make Us Refreshers

Morning Meditation – Make Us Refreshers

Morning Meditation with George Hutchings

George is working on another project this week. This meditation is adapted from a prayer request originally published January 16, 2022.

Make Us Refreshers

2 Timothy 1:16-17 “May our Lord give compassion to the house of Onesiphorus, who many times has refreshed me and was not ashamed of the chains of my bondage; On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he diligently searched for me and found me.” (HCSB)

Good morning, Lord. This morning I am empty! No prayer in me will reach further than the ceiling, but you have called us to be a people of prayer. Father, I praise you that you are a God who is not dependent on how I feel. I praise you for your promise “to be with me always.” You are here, meeting with me, even if I feel alone. I turn to your word and ask you to fill me with faith and give me a word for today.

In 2 Timothy we learn of the actions of a beloved friend—Onesiphorus—when Paul was imprisoned. Some of Paul’s co-workers had fallen away but not Onesiphorus. He searched hard in the large city of Rome to find and comfort Paul.

Father, I should not be empty this morning. You have sent people to me as you sent Onesiphorus to Paul. When I was deeply sick you sent Mike Anthony to search for me. He refreshed me with exercise and my strength returned. When I began creating Juanita School for Girls you sent people who searched for me, found me, and helped.

Morse Mill Baptist Church, where I began my ministry, was the first. People from my spiritual birth place, West Page and Craig Road Baptist churches, also entered the work. Two ladies from an online jewelry company, Inspiranza, sought me out and became donors. They prayed for me and your refreshment came.

You are in the business of refreshing us! Father, yesterday I had unexpected refreshment from a former classmate from my hometown of Leopold, MO. Though we knew each other 60 years ago, he refreshed me anew. He saw Juanita School needed textbooks and sent a donation.

Thank you for sending people to me in the spirit of Onesiphorus. Owen Taylor, a local pastor and friend from 30 years ago, recently took me out for coffee. His fellowship refreshed me and kept me from slipping into depression.

Last night, I was greatly refreshed when Ralph Tisher, a friend from 40 years ago, sought me out and called. You are constantly sending me people to refill my empty vessel.

Father, I am no longer empty. You have filled me with faith by sending refreshers. Now Lord, it is my turn. Make me not a burden but a refresher in my circle of influence. Help me to seek out others and provide encouragement. Make me a person who also stands in the gap for others when they’re needy.

Lord, the students at Juanita School need people to stand in the gap for them. They share textbooks because we can’t provide a set to each student. Textbooks cost $10-12 each. I ask you to provide textbook donors so we can have a set for each student.
