Morning Meditation with George Hutchings

George is working on another project this week. This meditation is adapted from a prayer request originally published March 17, 2022.

You Gave Them to Me

John 17:6-8 “I have revealed You to those whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours. You gave them to Me and they have obeyed Your Word. Now they know that everything You have given Me comes from You. For I gave them the words You gave Me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me.” (NIV)

Before the foundation of the world, God chose a people for Himself. He did not choose everyone in the world, but out of all the people in the world He chose some to be heirs of eternal life. “To those you gave Me out of the world. They were Yours. You gave them to me and they have obeyed Your word.”

It is comforting to know that God chose me. If it were up to me to choose Him, I never would. “For there is none who seek after God,” the Bible says. And If I could choose Him, I could un-choose Him and therefore lose my salvation. But He chose me and the “Gifts and callings of God are without repentance.” Those whom He calls He does not un-call.

Christians not only hear the world of God, but also obey it. “I gave them the words You have Me and they accepted them. They know with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me.”

Jesus is praying for His disciples. For a long time they were not sure what to believe. But now, after several years of following the Lord and hearing Him teach and seeing His miracles, they believe He is the Son of God! Jesus knows they now are truly believing that He is the Son of God sent from heaven and His words are as if from our Father in heaven.

So, pray with me:

-to be a people set apart, believing and obeying God’s Word.

-for the girls at Juanita School for Girls, that they will hear and respond to the gifts and callings of God.
