Divine Appointment: God Establishes the Time and Place For a Man to Live

Acts 17:28 “For in Him we live and move and have our being.” (NKJV)

When my wife Becky and I lived in Old Hickory, TN a suburb of Nashville, I worked for a furniture company named Worldwide Furniture. One day I waited on a particular gentleman and he asked if my name was George Hutchings. I said yes. He asked if I drove an orange Vega. Again, I responded in the affirmative. I asked, “How did you know?”

He was a police officer and said, “We wait for you every day as you cross the bridge.” On my side of the bridge the speed limit was 45 but on the other side of the bridge it was 25 and they waited for me every day.

I went home that evening and told Becky we had to move. “The police know me by name.” Shortly thereafter, I drove to St. Louis to find work and found a job with Levitz Furniture in Florissant, MO.

Becky and I moved into a rented apartment in Florissant. But when I reported to work the manager who hired me had been fired and I learned I didn’t have a job. However, I immediately found another job at nearby Wicks.

When I had been on the job for less than a month I helped Al Garnary with his furniture order. He invited me to his church. I told him I had a church.

He replied, “But, we have the best preacher west of the Mississippi.” I had always wanted to hear a good preacher because when I went to church, sermon time was nap time.

At home that evening I told Becky we were driving across town to attend church on Sunday. She said, “There is a Baptist church on the corner and they left a flier on the door. We can go there.”

I replied, “That man can’t preach a lick. I want to go hear Pastor Whitehead.”

Sunday came and we attended West Page Baptist Church. Being Catholic, I knew if everything else I had done did not send me to Hell, this surely would because here I was in a Baptist church.

On Monday night the preacher knocked at our door. And that night I became a man of faith.

God had orchestrated my very steps. He moved me from Nashville to St. Louis. He moved me from Levitz to Wicks. He arranged for me to meet Al Garnary.

God establishes the time and the place for a man to live. Now I am 74 years old and His hand is still upon me, establishing my steps in building Juanita School for Girls. Like Queen Esther, “Who knows but that I was born for such a time as this.”

The girls at Juanita School are there by an invisible hand establishing their steps. May they come to know this invisible hand.

Sponsor a student for $100 per month. That feeds, educates, clothes, and disciples an otherwise poverty-stricken girl. Donate today at www.JuanitaSchoolKenya.org.
