Favorably Disposed; A Prayer for Juanita School for Girls, Jungle Kenya

Exodus 3:21 “And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed” (NIV).

Lord, you made the Egyptians, “favorably disposed,” towards the Israelites. The Egyptians had held Israel captive as slaves for 400 years and you turned their situation into “favorably disposed.” It is such a joy to become favorably disposed. Yesterday, a friend from 20 years ago remembered me for Juanita School for Girls, and sponsored a student. I became favorably disposed. 

I pray that more people will become favorably disposed towards the students’ pleas for education. These students have lived in poverty all their lives as the Israelites lived in slavery all their lives. Hear their cries as you heard the Israelites cries and give the girls favor in the hearts of men.

I pray Deuteronomy 15:13 that You will not let the students go empty-handed with textbooks. Lord, the students need textbooks. We have eight students sharing one textbook! That would not be an education! It is a holding camp. We pray for favor among men so that we do not go empty handed into 2023 without enough textbooks.  

Father, the Israelites plundered the Egyptians of their silver and gold. I do not ask in this humble prayer that we plunder churches or people of their mission budgets, but as Matthew 15:27 says, “even the dogs get to eat the crumbs that fall from the rich man’s table.” Give us Mission Sundays in churches to tell the school’s story and allow freewill offerings to be received. 

Give us more churches for Pennies for Pupils. Lord, in 2021, Potosi Community Baptist Church designated their Vacation Bible School pennies to Juanita School for Girls and the offering provided each student with a Bible. And it did not hurt their mission budget. Grace PCA Church in Cottleville, MO did the same with their VBS pennies and sponsored a student. Open the hearts of churches to make us “favorably disposed” for Pennies for Pupils.

“I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians” (Exodus 3:21-22, NIV)

Some Egyptians loved their Hebrew slaves and wanted them to stay while others were glad to see them go. Either way, the Lord arranged for the Egyptians to send the Hebrews off with a fortune in silver and gold. The Lord was repaying the Hebrews for all their hardship under the Egyptians and He was providing the supplies they needed to start new lives on their own. Some of these supplies later were used to create the golden calf idol. But, some later would be used to build the Tabernacle of God!

Lord, we have seen that what seems impossible with man become possible with You. Juanita School for Girls is in a remote area of Kenya. The address is a grid coordinate! But You have made it a refuge for girls and an oasis in the desert. You have answered the cries of desperate girls for an education, but few people have heard of this wonderful place! Make us known to the hearts of men and make us “favorably disposed” to donors. Lord, I do not ask for plunder but to eat the crumbs that fall from rich mens’ tables.

Father, bless your people today as they begin their day and may the work of their hands and the meditations of their hearts become acceptable unto you and make them favorably disposed to Juanita School
