End of Year Newsletter from Juanita School
Here are highlights of some of the things we have accomplished this year at Juanita School. It has been a tough year on everyone but thanks to you, and your contributions, we have been able to continue with the work of improving Juanita School as we aim to make it an education friendly environment for our students and teachers. Thank You!
School Van Purchased For Juanita School
Being a boarding high school and located in an area where public transport is absent and roads are impassable during the rainy season, Juanita School requires a reliable form of transport.
Transport is required to take students to sporting activities, educational trips, hospital facilities incase of illness, marketing and exposure of the school, grocery shopping, and any other transportation need for the school.
We are grateful to announce that with your help, we have now acquired an 18-seater van for the school to serve the above purpose. We greatly appreciate this positive change to our school making us mobile.
We cannot say it enough or more sincerely, Thank You.
Juanita School Science Lab Completed
Research indicates that, we don’t remember the things we hear nearly as well as things we see or touch. Use of models, equipment, supplies, materials, or teaching aids to understand theories and concepts make teaching and learning easy for both teachers and students. Students get to develop interest in scientific research, get an opportunity to learn about aspects that are difficult to grasp from just reading and they can even get a chance to discover a scientific principle on their own. Science experiments bring reality to life instead of abstract thinking and visualization.
It is from the above background that we have constructed a science laboratory at Juanita School with all the required equipment and materials for high school science subjects including microscopes and Bunsen burners.
Each high school student in Kenya is required to learn Chemistry, Biology, and Physics through lecture and laboratory sessions. The completed science lab will help students gain valuable hands-on lab experience in different areas of these subjects. At the end of the whole learning experience, the students will gain enough exposure and understanding to help them in exploring their career opportunities. The school will have achieved its goal of being a center of innovation and technology in the locality.
Thank You for your generous support in making this project a reality. It means the world to us and all those girls will go through our school for generations to come. You are our heroes!
Once again, we are sincerely grateful.
Juanita School Computer Lab Completed
Generally, a computer lab in a school enhances scientific and technological research as well as invention capacity of students. When a student uses a computer during learning, they are much more interested and enthusiastic about technology and science. For basic computer skills to develop, students need to practice, hence the need for a computer lab.
One of the pillars that form the foundation of our school is education, especially for girls with the current emerging issues in the world, there is need to update and upgrade education to relate to innovation and technology. A lot of schools in Kenya have no access to the latest technology devices or the internet. All students at Juanita School come from remote and rural areas with no access to electricity. It seemed paramount for our school to develop a computer lab as a center for teaching computer skills to students as well as enable our teachers to conduct research for their classes and create technology-based projects. At the end of it all, students will have gained knowledge to help them in their career goals, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities in the ever-growing technology world.
With our goal of being at the forefront of the technology-based learning, we were able to add fast and reliable computers, printers, projectors, and smartboards to our learning environment.
Thank You for believing in our vision of bringing technology-based education to young girls in Kenya.
We couldn’t do it without you and we highly appreciate your support.
More Bunk Beds Obtained
Thanks to Pastor Becky and her team at Calvary United Methodist Church in Pennsylvania, we have been able to obtain 12 more bunk beds for our students.
We highly appreciate their contributions as we are expecting the number of students to increase during the coming school year.
Thank You and May God Bless You.
